We  propose two versions of the architectural and urban-planning solution where a layout ground of the building is common, but the external shell varies. Besides we propose the conceptual solution of the square of the Belarusian railway station and development of the territory behind the object to be designed - between Gruzinsky Val Street and the railway is presented too.

Urban-planning concept

The square of the Belarussky railway station.

Final design of  the square will transform it into another format - from a traffic interchange to the public space connected with pedestrian part of Tverskaya Street and pedestrian square of the complex “Belaya Ploshchad”.

We propose the concept of a little different interpretation of a traffic interchange that enables to organize the vast landscaped and foot space accessible to pedestrians without using the underground passages from Tverskaya street and “Belaya Ploshchad”.

The connection of all transport directions will be without traffic lights. Underground parking will be placed below above-ground landscaped space. Direct access to the complex of the Belarusian station and to the future complex “Tverskaya Zastava” will be only for taxi and buses.

Three dimensional solution of the building:

It is the “full-length” form growing along building line up to the level of height limitation of the building – 32 m. In this connection there are two versions presented which have different ways of adaptation to the nearest surroundings, but they equally with confidence establish space ties with their “vis-à-vis” on other side of the square.

First variant. The object faces the square with irregular volume composed from the shifted storeys of different form. It is on principle asymmetric and makes the entrance forespace by shifts of the building form. A lively contour which this form offers, and the complex structure of facade surface brings together the object with plastic solution of the group of buildings on the Belaya Ploshchad and extends the development of “new” architecture endwise along Lesnaya St and Gruzinsky Val St. Materials for facade finishing include stone, glass, patinated metal.

Second variant proposes more integral and restrained volume also for maximum height along the building line and repeating the symmetry of main facade of the existing building. Full-dimension of the form is compensated by translucency and even some fragility of its shell structure. The portico of main facade reminding of the drawn back curtain is contrasting to lateral facades which are neutral and create only a background for a silhouette delicacy of the railway station building. The roundness of the upper contour of the building to be designed and colour of façade nervures made of copper patina plate, close to the coloring of the railway station complex, help it “not to drop out of the context”.
