We can safely claim that the Belaya River and its tributary Ufa formed that city and shaped its layout with their outlines. Surrounded by rivers on three sides, the city grew up on the hill diagonally from south-west to north-east, spreading for over 25 km and measuring less than 3 km wide in its narrowest part. 

In our concept of Ufa’s spatial development, we proceeded from its unique landscape potential and primarily its contrasting terrain. We have proposed to “swing” the city around so that it faces the river, incorporates vast river panoramas and forms eco-friendly corridors by making use of lateral ravines – the green links between the riverbanks cutting the monotonous urban fabric into compact fragments.
